The magic of the wood in the Park

Hi, I'm the oldest Arolla pine in the area! Do you happen to hear a creaky sound? It must be the nutcracker; it just flew away. It tickles me in search of pine nuts and sometimes it forgets a few pine cones around, but that helps me to give birth to more Arolla pines, the more, the better!
The woods in the park are just under 20% of its surface, but I certainly don't feel alone! I like to consider myself part of a very complex reality, a wonderful network of ties. In fact, the wood is like an operations center, even underground, made up of relationships involving visible and invisible beings. You should know that here I, the nutcrackers, and all the others strive to stay healthy but we also work for you! In fact, a beautiful, healthy wood produces oxygen, reduces the force of the wind, solar radiation, and noise, retains precious moisture, and sometimes we also protect you from landslides and avalanches. All these works are called ecosystem services or, as you may have guessed, benefits that we give you on a daily basis.
But you also gave us a gift: in the past, you took away collapsed trees, because you needed timber to survive and warm up, while today dead wood is left on-site to promote the growth of microorganisms, insects, and fungi, well-appreciated by other animals in the wood and, thus, biodiversity increases and we are all happy. Enjoy the rest!
