Built around 1202, this castle was first mentioned as turris domini episcopi in 1245. \r\nA chapel dedicated to Saint Catherine, located inside, and a courthouse facing east enriched the complex, evidence of the administrative and religious life of that time. A staircase at the entrance of the tower joined the complex to the square, called the \"barrio,\" where the heads of households met annually in the local parliament, known as the \"Sogne,\" chaired by the bishop who reached Cogne for the occasion from Aosta. During the year, the manor was inhabited by a castellan and guards.\r\nIn 1834, the structure, now in ruins, was sold to the parish and used as the headquarters of the Rectory. In the 1860s, in addition to being used as tourist accommodations and a police station for the Royal Carabinieri, the complex also hosted a weather observatory, the first of its kind in the Alpine area, thanks to the initiative of Canon Jean-Pierre Carrel. In 1873, Vittorio Emanuele II bought it all for his royal hunts, bringing Cogne to the forefront and promoting tourism development. Later, his successors preferred the residence of Sarre; therefore, the castle served as the headquarters of the mining company, a hotel, and the municipal library. Two plaques on the fa\u00e7ade celebrate the castle as a National Monument and the king's hunts. Today, it serves as a tourist residence."},"titolo-paragrafo-2":{"type":"textfield","raw":""},"testo-paragrafo-2":{"type":"wysiwyg","raw":""},"titolo-paragrafo-3":{"type":"textfield","raw":""},"testo-paragrafo-3":{"type":"wysiwyg","raw":""}},"generalita":{"classificazione":{"type":"select","raw":""},"titolo":{"type":"textfield","raw":""},"sottotitolo":{"type":"textfield","raw":""},"note":{"type":"wysiwyg","raw":""},"marchi":{"type":"image","raw":[""],"repeatable":[{"raw":""}]},"alert":{"type":"wysiwyg","raw":""}}},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.visitcogne.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/guida-virtuale\/12377","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.visitcogne.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/guida-virtuale"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.visitcogne.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/guida-virtuale"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.visitcogne.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/12665"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.visitcogne.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=12377"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"categoria-guide-virtuali","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.visitcogne.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categoria-guide-virtuali?post=12377"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
